The canyons up the line heading out of flat valley are arid and scarred with mines from the gold veins hiding just under the surface.
There are three active mines left in the canyons and are now a regular stop on the run down from the Alta engine house up at the end of the line around the corner.

| Above is pictured the original strike sitting atop the bluff. As the mine grew deeper and wider following the stopes along the veins a second shaft was added on the slope and got filled in by the debris pile accumulating around it. |
The tram way runs between the old mines and the new mine which was built on the hill across the canyon. which originally was thought to be a new vein and connected to the original mine at 1400' level.

The stamp mill does the crushing of the ore prior to loading for movement to the smelter.
