Pelton

The town is named after its famous inventor Mr. Pelton and his hydro powered high torque water wheel. This was developed for use in small power plants and is still in use in the power plant here on the river where it supplies the local town and the surrounding areas with electricity and water from the river.  The town is a center for commerce in the valley and is on the bank a small river front area.  Located on the edge of Flat Valley between the arroyo  that separates the mountains and the desert below from the edge of town, it is the county seat and the life line to the valley.

The town of Pelton sits on the bank of the Tangle River seen here running past the REA freight office.

There is a long trestle across the arroyo to the base camp for the Woods and Timber Logging Co. in the foothills of the coastal mountains just before arriving at Pelton.

Here is a view back across the long trestle towards the mountains and the logging operations.
Above is a view of downtown Pelton  from the trestle looking towards the river.

Burma Shave signs still exist in 1956 along the highway out across the valley grazing land.
